The festival was organized by the EU\u2013China Film Festival Organizing Committee and co-organized by the <strong>Communication University of China<\/strong> and the <strong>Nouvelles d\u2019Europe Cultural Media Group<\/strong>, among other partners. The event received wide media coverage from outlets including <strong>Xinhua News Agency<\/strong>, <strong>People\u2019s Daily<\/strong>, <strong>China Daily<\/strong>, and <strong>Nouvelles d\u2019Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty members and students from the <strong>School of Television, Communication University of China<\/strong>, participated extensively in the festival\u2019s activities. <strong>Xu Yuyun<\/strong>, a 2023 cohort Master\u2019s student in International Journalism and Communication, who took part in the production of <em>China Momentum in Europe<\/em> and witnessed the film receiving an award, reflected that \u201cdespite differences in language and culture, the aspiration for beauty and the pursuit of cooperation and mutual benefit are shared human emotions. We should use the camera to capture more meaningful encounters in international communication.\u201d<br>After volunteering at the festival, <strong>Wang Xinyang<\/strong>, a 2024 graduate student in International Journalism, remarked that \u201cseeing outstanding Chinese audiovisual works reach the \u2018heart of Europe\u2019 allowed me to truly experience the power of images to cross borders, and strengthened my determination to present a richer and more engaging image of China to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u25b2 Festival promotional poster<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>17 October<\/strong>, the 7th EU\u2013China Film Festival officially opened at <strong>Cin\u00e9ma Aventure<\/strong> in Brussels. Filmmakers, representatives of cultural institutions, scholars, and audiences from China and multiple European countries gathered to begin a dialogue that transcended language and culture. Under the theme <strong>\u201cSeeing Each Other Through Images,\u201d<\/strong> the festival presented a wide-ranging program including the opening ceremony, a Chinese Film Showcase, a special focus on filmmaker <strong>Qiao Mei<\/strong>, a Chinese Classic Animation Retrospective, the <em>Meet China<\/em> International Communication Program, and the <em>Meet Youth<\/em> exchange program for young filmmakers and secondary school students. The screenings covered contemporary Chinese cinema, classic animation, and director-focused presentations, offering a multifaceted exploration of social realities, inner worlds, and temporal dimensions, and highlighting the depth and diversity of contemporary Chinese moving-image practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u25b2 Representative films from the main screening sections<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the afternoon of <strong>18 October<\/strong>, the <em>Meet China<\/em> International Communication Program was held at the <strong>China Cultural Center in Brussels<\/strong>. Guests included representatives from the <strong>Chinese Embassy in Belgium<\/strong>, <strong>Gong Yi<\/strong>, Director of the China Cultural Center in Brussels, <strong>Hu Fang<\/strong>, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication at the Communication University of China, <strong>Zhong Cheng<\/strong>, President of the Nouvelles d\u2019Europe Cultural Media Group, and French director <strong>Gilles Thompson<\/strong>, among other Chinese and European guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from the School of Television\u2014including <strong>Huang Ruisi, Chen Chen, and Xu Yuyun<\/strong> (Class of 2023, International Journalism and Communication), <strong>Wang Xinyang, Zou Mi, and Cai Yilin<\/strong> (Class of 2024, International Journalism), as well as <strong>Wu Yuchun<\/strong> (Broadcasting and Television Studies)\u2014participated in the Brussels and Paris programs as creators and volunteers, contributing to screenings, award ceremonies, and professional exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u25b2 Guests and audience at the Meet China International Communication Program<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the <em>Meet China<\/em> award ceremony in Brussels on <strong>18 October<\/strong>, the <strong>EU\u2013China Visual Communication Award<\/strong> and the <strong>EU\u2013China Cultural Exchange Contribution Award<\/strong> were presented. Organizations and individuals from <strong>Xinhua News Agency Europe Regional Bureau<\/strong>, <strong>China Global Television Network (CGTN)<\/strong>, <strong>China Daily<\/strong>, and the <strong>Communication University of China<\/strong> were among the award recipients.<br>Notably, <em>China Momentum in Europe<\/em>, produced by Xinhua News Agency Europe Regional Bureau with in-depth participation from <strong>Huang Ruisi, Chen Chen, and Xu Yuyun<\/strong>, received the <strong>EU\u2013China Visual Communication Award (Short Video Category)<\/strong>. The film tells the story of renewed momentum in civilizational exchange and connectivity as China and the EU mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event also featured screenings of outstanding works such as <em>Lighting Up Ali: An Engineer\u2019s Diary<\/em> (a nominated work for the Second \u201cSilk Road Award\u201d for International Communication organized by the Belt and Road News Cooperation Alliance), <em>Encounters with China: Xixi Wetland<\/em>, and <em>A Belgian Geologist in China<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the event, <strong>Gong Yi<\/strong> and <strong>Hu Fang<\/strong> met with volunteer students <strong>Wang Xinyang, Zou Mi, Cai Yilin, and Wu Yuchun<\/strong> for an exchange and group photo. The four students were undertaking a one-year government-sponsored exchange program in Belgium under the <strong>China Scholarship Council\u2019s Innovative Talent International Cooperation Program<\/strong>. During the festival, they applied their professional skills and enthusiasm to audience coordination, screening assistance, and the organization of cultural dialogue sessions, making a meaningful contribution to EU\u2013China cultural exchange and the festival\u2019s international communication efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>French screenwriter <strong>Nastasia Pradelle<\/strong> and <strong>Peter O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, journalist with <strong>France 24<\/strong>, joined discussions themed <em>\u201cSeeing Each Other Through Images,\u201d<\/em> addressing narrative strategies in cross-cultural audiovisual communication, how Chinese stories resonate internationally, the visual construction of \u201creal China,\u201d and diverse representations of urban identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the <strong>Paris event on 25 October<\/strong>, <strong>Zhong Cheng<\/strong> noted in his remarks that Chinese audiovisual works present a diverse, nuanced, and dynamic China to European audiences through sincere perspectives, and that the festival\u2019s core value lies in bringing people from different cultural backgrounds together to listen, reflect, and engage. <strong>Hu Fang<\/strong> emphasized that the screened works vividly illustrated multi-sector cooperation between China and Europe over the past 50 years, reaffirming the role of moving images as a bridge for cultural exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"586\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eucnff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1999\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eucnff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-4.png 798w, https:\/\/www.eucnff.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-4-300x220.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Volunteers from the 2024 International Journalism cohort with Professor Hu Fang<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Paris screenings included <em>Encounters with China: Xixi Wetland<\/em>, <em>Lighting Up Ali: An Engineer\u2019s Diary<\/em>, and <em>A Belgian Geologist in China<\/em>.
